Stigma is a significant barrier preventing those with mental illnesses from achieving life goals. In this study, researchers tested a stigma reduction program called This Is My Brave, in which stories about mental illnesses are delivered to an audience. Individuals who participate in this program share their lived experiences with mental illness, but also their path to recovery. This trial aimed to determine the impact on an audience after viewing these video performances. Researchers found that this form of stigma intervention can indeed improve attitudes towards mental illness, and can perhaps even reduce discriminatory behaviour towards those who struggle with mental illness (Kosyluk et al., 2020).
