“Inflammation predicts new onset of depression in men..."

This recent study examines how depression may be associated with increased inflammation (Ernst et al., 2021). The researchers discovered that inflammation is predictive of depression in men, but that this is not the case for women. Researchers suspect this difference could be because of differences in some immune responses found in women and men, which could alter the association between inflammation and symptoms of depression. This information is rather significant, as knowledge about vulnerabilities which contribute to depression is important for shaping prevention and intervention efforts for depression in men and women.
