“Investigating the effects of genetic risk of schizophrenia on behavioural traits”

While a lot is known about the behavioural traits which are associated with schizophrenia, less is known about the behavioural traits that are associated with an elevated risk for schizophrenia.

Although more studies need to be done to confirm the consistency of these results, the UK researchers found that an increased genetic risk of schizophrenia is associated with negative traits, such as lower friendship satisfaction, lower family satisfaction, and increased feelings of guilt and anxiety. Additionally, social cognition challenges are also a risk factor for a schizophrenia diagnosis.

The analysis in this study also indicated that those with tendencies for impulsive risk-taking could have an underlying genetic risk for schizophrenia (Socrates et al., 2021).
