Researchers conducted a study to illustrate the psychiatric illness of children with parents who have substance use disorder.
The study pulled from a Ministry of Health Hospital and included 50 children, 25 had a parent with substance use disorder (Group A) and the other 25 had parents with no psychiatric diagnosis (Group B). They investigated the relation between the Addiction Severity Index and the MINI KID scale. Those with parents with a SUD. Group A showed more significant diagnosis than Group B by the MINI KID scale. They concluded that the substance abuse parent has a detrimental effect on their children’s wellbeing. They also found the severity of parent addition does not affect the risk for having psychiatric disorders in their children.
